1972 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL “Pagoda” (W113)

This 280 SL is a U.S.-market example of Mercedes-Benz’s W113 “Pagoda,” presented in a rare color combination and in comprehensively restored condition. Although titled as 1972 for the U.S. market, the W113 series concluded production in 1971; late deliveries were sometimes first registered in 1972.

About the 280 SL “Pagoda”

Introduced in 1967 as the final and most developed iteration of the W113 line, the 280 SL combined Paul Bracq’s distinctive concave hardtop (“Pagoda”) with Béla Barényi’s safety-oriented body structure. Compared with the preceding 230/250 SL, the 280 SL adopted the larger M130 2.8-liter inline-six and refined running gear, balancing grand-touring comfort with precise, predictable handling. The model became a benchmark for usable, high-quality sports touring cars of its era.
